Bole & Branch Urban Forest Consulting was founded with a clear purpose: to deliver independent, unbiased, and science-based tree consulting services. Our work is designed to support informed decision-making and reduce liability by helping Chicagoland property owners understand and maximize the benefits trees provide to their properties and the broader community while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks now and in the future.

We specialize in comprehensive tree risk assessments and urban tree management from bole to branch for properties of all sizes, including residential and commercial sites, golf courses, parks, and campuses throughout the Chicagoland area.

Our services include individual tree health and risk assessments, real estate-focused tree risk evaluations, tree preservation and monitoring plans for construction projects, inventories, municipal ordinance analyses, third-party reviews of tree removal permit applications, and defensible arborist reports.

A General Tree Assessment is a visual assessment of your tree and is used to assess tree health and condition, pest infestations, and disease signs/symptom identification. These assessments are often used as a filter to identify trees that should receive a more thorough assessment, such as a “Level 2” Tree Risk Assessment.

Trees provide a myriad of social, environmental, and economical benefits to property owners and the community, so it is crucial to preserve and protect the trees on your property through all stages of development from pre-planning design and engineering, construction, and post-construction.

We’ll help you design a plan that incorporates sound technical information and best management practices to protect your trees throughout the construction process and mitigate the effects of construction practices on tree health and vigor.

A Tree Risk Assessment is a more detailed visual inspection of your tree and the surrounding site, along with a synthesis of the information collected. These assessments evaluate tree health, visually obvious defects, and conditions of concern and use the information collected to evaluate potential likelihood of tree part failure, target assessment, and consequences of failure in order to evaluate the degree of risk.

Tree risk assessment reports can be provided upon request. Reports include a detailed analysis of the inspection, a discussion of risk assessment and rating, and options/recommendations for mitigating risk.

We provide real estate–specific tree risk assessments designed for time-sensitive transactions. Our pre-listing or pre-closing tree risk snapshot identifies visible defects, failure potential, and foreseeable tree-related risks that may affect property value, safety, or liability, helping prevent last-minute surprises and negotiations that can delay listings or closings.

Reports are clear, concise, and delivered quickly to meet real estate timelines. Services are tailored for property owners, real estate agents, home inspectors, attorneys, lenders, and insurers, providing practical findings and defensible recommendations suitable for disclosures, due diligence, and risk management.

Brandon Naser, Founder and Forester

Brandon brings over 15 years of experience in the field of urban forestry and arboriculture across both private and public sectors including roles as municipal forester, tree health care specialist, and utility forester. He is a Certified Arborist, Utility Specialist, and Tree Risk Assessment Qualified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). He holds a B.S. in Natural Resources with a focus on urban forestry from Oregon State University and a MPA from Northern Illinois University.

Since 2015, he has served on the Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI) work groups, contributing to the development of CRTI's Tree Preservation Ordinance Templates, Tree Risk Toolkit, Urban Forestry Basic Training course, and Master Plan 2050. He is also an active member of the ISA and Illinois Arborist Association.
